Nigeria Now Part of the EBRD: Implications For Infrastructure Financing
Podcast Discussion
On the 16th of May 2024, the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development announced that its shareholders had approved the accession of Nigeria as a member country. While this is only the first step in the process, it is as good as settled, as all that is left is for the Nigerian government to align on certain economic and political adjustments.
This move has significant implications for the future of infrastructure financing in Nigeria, in the medium to long term. We can expect Nigeria’s EBRD membership to open the country up to vital financing for its development initiatives, addressing critical infrastructure deficit, and enhancing sustainable development.
The podcast recording (60 mins) would seek to address the following market problem statements
- How will Nigeria's membership in the EBRD open new funding avenues for infrastructure projects?
- In what ways can the EBRD’s involvement boost investor confidence in Nigeria?
- What strategic steps should Nigeria take to leverage its EBRD membership for sustainable development?
- How can Nigeria ensure compliance with the EBRD’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards?

Livestock-Based Biogas as an Economic DRE
Podcast Discussion
Livestock-based biogas electricity Mini-grids represent an innovative and sustainable approach to addressing energy needs in rural and off-grid communities.
These systems utilize the organic waste produced by livestock—such as manure—to generate biogas through anaerobic digestion. This biogas can then be used to produce electricity, providing a reliable and renewable energy source.
Countries with significant agricultural sectors stand to benefit greatly from this technology. It promotes sustainable development by addressing energy needs, improving waste management, and supporting rural economies.
As the world moves towards more sustainable energy solutions, livestock-based biogas electricity mini-grids offer a promising avenue for both energy production and environmental stewardship.
The podcast recording would seek to address the following market problem statements
A. What are the primary benefits of using livestock waste for biogas production, both environmentally and economically?
B. What challenges do rural communities face in implementing biogas mini-grids, and how can these be overcome?
C. What role can government policies and incentives play in promoting the adoption of biogas mini-grids in agricultural regions?
